Details for everyone else

This page will clearly explain all you need to know about how to join the comp, how to tip, and the rules of the competition.

First off, the competition is run using the OzTips (www.oztips.com) tipping website. OzTips is fully responsible for managing the weekly running of the competition, including all scoring, deadline cut-offs and result entry. By now, I should either have your money, or am soon to relieve you of it. After that, my involvement is minimal and you’re largely responsible yourself for ensuring your tips are entered before the close of the round.

Cost:
Competition Entry is $20, once-off. You can pay this to me either in cash or transfer it via bank transfer.

Registering on OzTips:
To join the competition, you need an OzTips account. If you have been a competitor in this or other OzTips tipping competitions in previous years, then you will already have an account. If you have never played using the OzTips website before, then visit http://www.oztips.com/userdetails.asp and create yourself an account. NB: In order to play, you *must* register with OzTips. You may register using any name and email address you wish.

Joining The Tipping Competition:
One you have successfully created an account with OzTips, you will need to join the NRL tipping comp. If you visit this site http://www.oztips.com/joincomp.asp you will be prompted to enter an OzTips Comp# and Password.
The OzTips Comp# is 156295
To register, visit http://www.oztips.com and register to join the following competition

Once you have joined the comp, you.ll be taken to the Your Tips screen.

How to Tip:
After you log into the Oztips website (http://www.oztips.com), click “Rex’s NRL Tipping Comp 2009″ to enter tips for this competition.

The My Tips section allows you to enter your tips for the first 25 weeks. Each game has a cut-off deadline for registering your tips. Please make sure you log into OzTips and enter your picks before the close of round. IF you are unable to enter your tips for one reason or another, I will accept your tip entries and enter them on your behalf only if I am contacted before the cut-off time. Additionally, if you require me to enter tips on your behalf, I require your tips either in E-Mail or SMS form (in case there is any dispute as to when/what tips were entered)

When tipping, each round lists 8 matches played over the course of the weekend. You will need to pick who you believe will be the winner for each game. If you believe the game will end in a draw (after golden-point time) then tip for the draw. You can click the name of each team and view statistics about the game to get some assistance when picking. You may tip up to all 25 round-robin weeks upfront, and then when the finals series is upon us, you can tip rounds 26 to 29 on a per-week basis.

TIP: Make sure you click the Save Tips button after entering your tips or your entry will not be entered, and I can’t accept your tips after the deadline if this happens.
TIP 2: Toward the end of the week, I have found OzTips undergoes severe load as a swarm of people rush to put in their tips, so I recommend tipping early on in the week to avoid any problems with not being able to put your tips in because the website was down. If the website is down, and you can get your tips to me before the cut-off, I will enter them on your behalf, but please don’t make a habit of this.

This competition includes tipping for all round-robin games AND all State Of Origin games AND all of the finals series, so bear in mind that if you don’t get off to a great start, you have all season to claw your way back to the top!

Results:
The results of each round will be automatically calculated by the OzTips system, and are generally available on Monday morning. Sometimes depending on the load of their servers, the website wont have calculated the results for the last round, so just be a bit patient and it will display eventually. :P

Point Allocation:

  • Regular Season (rounds 1 – 25):
    • Correctly tip the win: 2 points
    • Correctly tip the draw: 4 points
    • Incorrect tip: 0 points
    • Perfect round: 2 points
  • State Of Origin (all 3 games)
    • Correctly tip the win: 3 points
    • Correctly tip the draw: 4 points
    • Incorrect tip: 0 points
    • Perfect round: N/A
  • Finals Series:
    • Correctly tip the win: 4 points
    • Correctly tip the draw: N/A
    • Incorrect tip: 0 points
    • Perfect round: 2 points

So from this list you can immediately see that there is always an opportunity to stay in the game, either by tipping a perfect round, or by correctly picking a draw.

Prizes:
Based on previous years, there should actually be enough prizes for the top 5 places (not just the top 3)! All entry fees go into providing the winnings, and are apportioned such that each place wins a significant amount more than the one below it. At this stage it’s hard to say exactly how much will go to each winner, but to give you an example last year’s winners won the following amounts:

  • 1st place: $184
  • 2nd place: $138
  • 3rd place: $92
  • 4th place: $46
  • 5th place: $20 (You get your money back)

So if more people join the comp, then obviously these prizes will increase – ie: spread the word!!

Misc:
Other random things I need to tell you but cant categorise it:

  • Remember to tip State of Origin games
  • All games include golden-point time. IE: the result is the result after full game play + all extra time played.
  • If you need to email your tips, send them to xerxes@bigpond.net.au with the subject NRL TIP ENTRY, and include your OzTips username
  • If you need to sms your tips, please SMS them to 0421 045 146 and include your OzTips username otherwise I wont know whose tips to enter!

I know this is a long post, but thanks for reading to the end. If you have any questions/problems please reach me on the above address.

Good luck!

-Xerxes.
